“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.”
Please mark your calendar for DineAround the West End – the fourteenth annual progressive dinner to benefit the West End Civic Association. DineAround is the major fundraiser for WECA, making it possible to enrich life in the West End throughout the year. We sponsor neighborhood activities, block parties, The West End Farmers Market and four free summer movies. We convene and support committees to address public safety, zoning & education issues and to encourage historic preservation. And we make thousands of dollars in community grants to support a range of neighborhood interests/benefits.
This year’s DineAround will be on Saturday evening, January 27, 2018, when we expect to have 250+ guests join us for Opening & Dessert receptions and dinner at homes throughout the West End.
The DineAround committee begins meeting this week to begin planning another gala event! One of our first and most important tasks is to recruit dinner hosts. Dinner hosts donate their home, food, wine, and time to the cause and the event cannot be done without them. Please consider volunteering when you receive your email request.
Some frequently asked questions that we are aware of and would like to respond to:
Are there “held seats” for certain people in the community? Yes, some! Seats for the dinner are held for:
- Current year’s hosts, both dinner and reception: If you are a generous host of one of the receptions or a dinner, you are guaranteed a place at all parts of the evening, as well as being invited to a Host Reception – a thank-you from the committee, 3 weeks prior to the main event.
- Sponsors: All sponsors, no matter what their level, have reserved seats for the DineAround. Some of those seats are complimentary at Platinum, Gold and Silver levels, and some must be purchased; but every sponsorship is an additional donation, which guarantees sponsors’ seats.
- Committee members and their partner or guest – committee members have responsibilities on the evening of the event, and must be able to participate fully and be present for all parts of the evening.
How are dinner assignments made?
Guests are assigned to dinner homes via a random drawing. This has been the case for several years now, as the event has grown in size. We encourage our dinner hosts to create a menu for their dinners that they are comfortable with and will enjoy preparing. Over the years, the number of requests to accommodate special diets at the dinner have increased substantially. Please remember that dinners are hosted in generous neighbors’ homes, not restaurants; so while we make every effort to accommodate genuine food allergies, we really cannot give guarantees for complicated and specific food requests.
Do committee members receive free entry to the DineAround?
No! Committee members pay just like everyone else. Only hosts receive free entry to the parts of the event that they are not hosting.
Sponsorships are always available. Learn more by contacting committee co-chairs Jan Klein (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Roger Minor (email@example.com).
Thank you to the entire West End for supporting and loving DineAround the West End! You make everything possible!
